Final Magazine Advert

Magazine Advert: editing

I decided to add a lens flare to my magazine advert to fill in the black background as it looked plain. I also decided to change the font of the text and the positioning and add an iTunes symbol as an idea of where to get the album. I added this in from my audience feedback (EVALUATION QUESTION 3)

Evaluation Question 3

I made a video by asking 3 people around my target audience (both genders - 17) 6 questions about my music video.

The questions were:
1- What did you like about the music video?
2- What do you think could be improved?
3- Did it suit the Synthpop genre and why?
4- Did the video go with the lyrics?
5- Was there a good balance of narrative and singing?
6- Would you watch it again and why?

Answers:

1 -Altogether they said that they liked the props used, costumes, actors, theme, lighting, colours and focus shift at the start of the video.
2 -They said that there could be improvements such as an eye line shot in the scene where the girls and boy are laying down looking at the sky, more emphasis on the theme, and a clearer narrative.
3 - They all said that the video suited the Synthpop genre because of the props used (lights - electronic which fits in with the music), calm colours used, the casual clothing used and the shots of the sky.
4 - They all said the video went with the lyrics because the music video visually showed the lyrics. (for example 'to ten million fireflies' showed a jar full of 'fireflies').
5 - One said there was a good balance of performance shots and narrative shots and said I tied them nicely together. The other two said there could have been more performance shots.
6 - Two of them said they would watch it again and the other said that they would suggest it to a friend.


I then created a survey monkey to get more of a variety of answers from different people. Unfortunately I only got 10 responses so it isn't as representative as I wanted it to be.

Everyone who answered this questionnaire was roughly in my target audience; so I could get valid feedback.
They said they liked (music video):
- The props used (lights, jars)
- Narrative
- Editing (how it went in time with the music)
- Focus shift at the start of the video
- Camera angles used (there was a variety)
- Meaning to the lyrics (visual interpretation of them)
- Locations used.

They said they liked (digipak+magazine advert):
- Font and colour scheme
- Simple and understandable
- Use of guitar throughout both of them - linking them together
- How the costume is the same - again linking them
- How they have similar house styles - linking them together

They said that there could be improvements too (music video):
- Some lip syncing is off of place
- Match on action shot in the field shot
- Some shots could have been shot during night time
- More performance shots
- Narrative wasn't that clear

They said there could be improvements (digipak+magazine advert):
- Place of text
- Lack in variety of shot types
- More information on the magazine advert
- Images don't reflect the titles that much
- More colours

90% said that the digipak and magazine advert went well with the music video.
80% of them said that the digipak and magazine advert suited the synthpop genre.

They suggested improvements:
- Use a better background in the magazine advert
- Use more edits and text effects
- Change the position of the bottom text in the magazine advert
- Use more variety of shot types
- Add more information on the magazine advert such as featured songs in the album
- Lighting.

Altogether this has given me a greater understanding of what my target audience think. I will go back on my magazine advert using this and change the background, positioning of text and what information goes on there.

Class Feedback

I got feedback from 2 class members and my teacher for my music video, digipak and magazine advert. Below is pictures taken of the feedback given.

Teacher's:

I got a 6 for my digipak, 4 for my magazine advert and a 30 for my music video. I will improve my magazine advert as it's my weakest area.
